Excellent programs for other OSes, OK for Mac (1.9.2) 5/25/2014 10:30:00 PM 5/5 By Pete0596 This program would be very difficult to use, except that there are good macro programs available (like Keyboard Maestro). By making a macro that opens Lingvo, pastes text, and hit enter, I was able to make a good “lookup word” shortcut, which suddenly makes the program very helpful. This functionality should be included in Lingvo, though.

Nevertheless, for value considering all the dictionaries, and for the fact that there’s really nothing else out there, it gets 5 stars. Very nice dictionaries, solid app (1.8) 4:54:00 AM 3/5 By BKman I've been a big fan of Lingvo dictionaries for a long time and used converted dictionaries in native Dictionary.app on OS X. I was very excited when ABBYY released a OS X version of Lingvo but bad reviews stopped me from buying at that time.

Lingvo For Mac

Today I decided to pay back to ABBYY just for a dictionaries. However, app by itself is a good app.

For an experienced OS X user it looks like a clone from Windows app — I miss Apple's elegancy here for sure. But it at least usable — I have to adjust a little from my usual reading routine (triple-tap on a touchpad vs mouse-over while holding an Option or Shift key — configurable in app preferences). Pros: - huge collection of dictionaries included, some of them have voice of native speakers for most words - fast translations (should I thank my SSD for that?) - working in any modern Mac app (Cocoa-based): iBooks, Safari, Cons: - You can't order dictionaries in preferences — and control in which order your translations will appear on a popup. I miss that functionality a lot comparing to Lingvo on Apple iOS.

You can enable/disable dictionaries, but not order them.- doesn't work in Google Chrome for some reason - not all dictionaries from other Lingvo platforms are present in the app (MenuTranslate, for example). Please check list of dictionaries on ABBYY website before making a purchase!

- copy-and-paste interface from it's Windows counterpart. Dev team should really read Apple Human Interface Guidelines once again.

Lingvo app have to be running in background if you need mouse-over translations working (Dictionary.app from OS X doesn't have that problem) Please add more dictionaries and ability to order them! Was worried about low ratings, but it turned out to be a decent app! (1.6) 3/17/2013 7:36:00 PM 5/5 By Anisa Z. As many of the reviewers here, I switched from PC to Mac recently. Working primarily on translations, my most important worries were: Will I be able to use Microsoft Word on Mac? Will I be able to use Lingvo for my translations? The answer to the first question was easy: yes, I got Microsoft Office and it worked like a charm.

Then I found this Mac version of Lingvo, and first I hesitated to purchase it because it was pretty expensive, and the reviews were not flattering. I bought it today with a 50% discount for $29.99, and honestly, I don't understand why some people gave it one- and two-star ratings. Perhaps, earlier versions were not as good. But the version that I purchased today (let me look up the date - on March 17, 2013) works just like I would use it on PC.

Good product. If you are hesitating because of low ratings, don't worry.

I recommend this app to anyone who needs a good English-Russian dictionary for translations on a daily basis. Five stars, and not one less!
